How to track your goals with OKRs

Every organization, small or big, has to make sure that everybody is on the same track in order to reach their goals. Vision needs to be mapped to strategy, strategy to concrete goals which everybody inside the organization is aware of. OKRs is one of the frameworks that helps organizations to achieve it and there is a number of big companies (Google amongst them) that are successfully using it to navigate their growth.

OKR stands for Objectives and key results and means exactly that. The main idea is that you set a goal (or an objective) you want to achieve and set a list of key results which are required to achieve it. There is one important thing about the key results: they have to be measurable. “Increase the number of customers” is not a good example, as it is hard to tell if the key result was achieved - is it enough to get one more customer? Then your key result is “Increase the number of customers by one”. Or do you want to increase the number by 10%? Then your key result is “I…

New feature: Calendar Perspective

Recently we published a post about the Chart Perspective and today, we are pleased to announce the  Calendar Perspective!

If your collection contains attributes with date and time, you can view them in a calendar. Don’t worry about the format - Lumeer recognizes lots of formats and doesn’t mind if the value is “01/04/2019” or “April 1, 2019 6pm” (in case your favourite date format is not supported, please let us know and we will make it work).

After switching the perspective, choose attributes that contain your event name and start date. You can also choose an attribute with an end date but this is optional as some types of data (e.g. orders) contain only one date.

Now that there are events displayed in the calendar, you can see their names by hovering over the dots:

And after clicking on the dot, you can see all details of the event and update it:

You can of course add a new event to the calendar without going back to the table or post-it perspective. Double-click on a date and a window f…

New feature: Chart perspective

Your data are not only tables, and neither is Lumeer! Sometimes you need to change the perspective, the point of view if you will, and see your data in a chart rather than just a table for instance. Actually, lots of people coming from spreadsheets background had told us so. We are dedicated to creating the features you need, and this is why we present you with charts! Now you can find Chart among other perspectives in the perspective dropdown:

There are currently three types of charts you can choose from: line, bar and pie, and you can easily switch between them and select attributes for axes:

You might be used to changing data in your Excel table and then looking at chart next to it to see how it changes. Each of the perspectives in Lumeer can not only display but also change your data. Chart is not an exception - just drag the bars and the data will be automatically updated:

And don’t forget about the exports to .png files and other features you can find in the upper right corner:

How to track and manage your suppliers

Whether it is construction, manufacturing or digital services, supplier management appears in every business field. You need to track your suppliers and orders either for materials, tools or office supplies, and it can surely become a mess. In this article, we will show you how Lumeer will help you store and see all the information in one place.

We will use a chemical laboratory as a model example, but don’t worry, you will see that the supplier management principles are the same across all industries. We identified three basic entities: suppliers, orders and inventory items. Let’s create a collection for each one of them (if it’s the first time you are creating a collection, First time in Lumeer article can help you with that):

Then we fill the collection with all the items that we obtain from our suppliers:

And also with our suppliers:

Now we have two tables, but they don’t give us a complete picture, because they are missing the information about which supplier to contact when ordering…

Create Christmas wishlist in Lumeer

We are all looking forward to Christmas and to time spent with our families. We probably don't want to think about business and about business data management application Lumeer then.
But did you know you can use Lumeer even to create and share Christmas wishlist?

We start with creating a collection for the wishes. Fortunately, there are many colours and icons available and we can select appropriate ones:

We then add column names for everything that a wish should contain: who is going to receive the gift, what it should be and if someone already fulfilled it:

There is one attribute which is marked bold - it is called displayed attribute and characterises whole record. By default, it is the first one. We think that the most important attribute of the wish is the wish, therefore we change it:

Too seriously looking table probably isn't the best perspective for Christmas wishes. We rather switch to post-it perspective:

And fill it with wishes:

We then save the view as Christmas wishlis…

How secure are your data in Lumeer?

As more and more data is processed by computers, the question of data security has become inherent to all users. For business users it is even more important to know that their valuable data are secure.

Maybe you have heard about recent Intel’s L1 Terminal Fault vulnerability. We at Lumeer take security of your data very seriously, and that’s why we have cooperated with Digital Ocean to provide you protection against this threat.

Of course, we do a lot more for data security - encryption, redundancy and backup. Encryption means that when data is moving between computers, it is encoded in such way that only authorized parties (meaning you) can access it. Redundancy protects you against hard drive failure - if one drive fails, data is easily recovered because there is at least one other drive at the server that contains a copy. Backups go even further, they are stored in different geographical locations and are done periodically to assure you that even if there was a more serious damag…

How to track tasks for employees?

When multiple employees work on multiple projects, even in a small company it can easily happen that you lose track of who is doing what and on which project. However, it is very important to have quick and easy access to this kind information: you want to know progress on a project to plan for the future release, or you want to see if employees have some spare capacity or are too overwhelmed by the workload.
Maybe you feel that all that information is being lost in a pile of spreadsheets and emails. They are all there, but to access them means to spend precious minutes or even hours on searching the documents, every time. You wish to have everything in one place, with every question about current status or capacity answered within seconds and with just a few clicks. You want to easily make changes that are smoothly and automatically propagated to relevant people in the company. In this article, we will show you how to achieve this with Lumeer.
After we login into Lumeer, we create …
